Introducing our very own crochet items handmade with love by SCS Volunteers from Singapore Cancer Society. Conducted on a monthly basis, SCS Crochet of Love is one of SCS regular volunteering programmes that provides an opportunity for like-minded volunteers to gather together and crochet craft items under the guidance of our trainers.
All proceeds from the sales will contribute to our ongoing mission to minimising cancer and maximising life, and to continue journeying with cancer patients, caregivers, and beneficiaries, and scale up our programmes. Navy Blue – Colorectal Cancer
Quick fact: Regular screening can detect colorectal cancer early. The Faecal Immunochemical Test (FIT), is a quick and convenient screening test to detect early stages of colorectal cancer. This test is available in a simple kit that can be carried out in the comfort of your own home. SCS distributes FIT kits at no charge to all eligible Singaporeans and Permanent Residents.
Lavender – General Cancer
Quick fact: In Singapore, 37 people are diagnosed with cancer and 1 in 3 people dies from cancer every day. With early detection and treatment, you can prevent this disease. Some known causes of cancer include genetic makeup, smoking, sun and UV exposure, radiation exposure and previous cancer treatments.
Pink – Breast Cancer
Quick fact: The risk of breast cancer increases with age. More than 80% of all breast cancers are diagnosed in women aged 45 years and above. Excessive alcohol consumption, being overweight or obese and lack of physical activity may increase a woman's risk of breast cancer.
White – Lung Cancer
Quick fact: Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer. The risk of having lung cancer increases with the number of cigarettes smoked each day and the duration of smoking.
Blue – Prostate Cancer
Quick fact: The SCS Walnut Warriors is a support group that reaches out to prostate cancer survivors, providing physical and psychosocial support to members through therapeutic and enrichment programmes. The support group also organises the Man Plan Programme for prostate cancer patients undergoing hormone therapy.
Teal – Ovarian Cancer
Quick fact: The SCS Look Good Feel Better Programme was developed specifically for women undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The programme aims to help them minimise and manage the physical changes brought about by cancer treatment. Workshops organised are hands-on and held at various private and public hospitals island-wide.
